After conducting several site surveys, Paladon Systems has been chosen by
Jacobs Engineering on behalf of Shell UK to assist with upgrading the safety of Bacton’s shutdown system to SIL 2. Paladon Systems will be supplying 8 Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) to provide hydraulic power for 24 linear and rotary double-acting and spring-return valve actuators fitted to 3” to 30” Class 600 and 900 shutdown valves. Each HPU will be required to supply sufficient hydraulic flow rates and pressures to power up to 7 valve actuators simultaneously and will be replacing existing gas-over-oil systems.

Engineering Manager Brian Simister, “
Although traditional gas-over-oil systems are a proven technology, they do vent natural gas into the atmosphere during operation and are dependent on a reliable gas supply. Our HPUs will provide Shell with a far safer and more reliable power source than the existing gas-over-oil systems and assist them with meeting their environmental commitments.

Senior Contract Engineer Mary Shepherd, “
This is a large and dynamic project with multiple suppliers and so we have formed a dedicated project management team to handle the significant logistics. Depending on the final project scope, we expect to fulfil our scope of supply between June and August this year.

Opened in 1968, the
Bacton Terminal is located in North Norfolk, UK and takes gas from the Southern North Sea (SNS) and distributes it to the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands.
